"Swing" sechulde buses

From what I know, 90 and 238 have swing sechulde.

Can anyone tell me abt other swing services as I believe 74, 154 too have swing sechulde?

jus a guess... is it for generally used on "feeder" (real feeder or trunk but feeder-like) services where during peak hours buses from other trunk services of the same interchange which has less load is deployed on the feeder services to reduce congestion on the feeder buses... like during peak hours Svc 90's buses can be deployed to do an additional run on Svc 238 every time it comes back to Toa Payoh Int before doing Svc 90...?

a similar case is seen between Svc 7 and Svc 285 during evening peak but i could not confirm tis yet..

another case is Svc 804 and SVcs 85x during evening peak.. that explains the cameos of Dennis Lance 245s on Svc 804 during evening times..

I think "swing" is same as "split shift". The bus will operate on 2 services on different timings. For example, a bus could service service A during peak hours (AM & PM), but during off peak hours the bus will be back service service B.

Svc 90 buses never serve Svc 238, basically because that Svc 90 is mostly NAC and Svc 238 is FAC. There're 2 swing buses on Svc 238.

First swing bus goes back to BRAM @0910, then returning for service @1210. Second swing bus goes back to BRAM @1130, then returning for service @1515.

I didnt analyse Svc 90 swing schedules. I can speculate there's at least 3 swing buses.

SBS 9377 E on 65 started service @Selegie Rd. This is to reduce the waiting time because of the Orchard Rd jam.

I reported a similar case on Svc 143 a few weeks ago.

another “swing” incident (i dunno if it’s enough to call tis swing since it’s cos of Orchard Rd jam).. TIB513U of Svc 106 started a new trip at 18:08 from Orchard Blvd (before Tomlinson Rd) towards Bt Batok..

Svc243 0405 CACs will swing to svc 199 just after the peak peak morning peak at abt 8.30am to relieve the severe student crush.

For service 90, swing buses are truly split shift.

Rego 3578, 3599, 3605, 3613, 3615, 3619, 3623, 3720.

There was once 3722 did a swing between 90 and 238. But it seems 3722 is a perm 238 bus now.

I think the time u saw when 3722 made the swing was due to this following reason: One of the 238 buses broke down and 238 needed another bus urgently. Hence, 3722 from 90 made the swing.

I've never seen this swing before. How long ago did that incident happened?

Swing could possibly mean change to another service, like a certain Sv. 76 bus, it operates Sv. 76 in the morning, but goes over to Sv. 138 in the afternoon.

Split-shift is truly split-shift. Split-shift buses go back to the depot after AM peak and come out just before PM peak.

SPLIT SHIFT : Bus returns to depot after AM peak and back in service before PM peak begins.

SWING : Bus serves one service in the AM, then crosses over to another in the PM.

OR

Bus serves one service in the AM, goes back to depot, then another service in PM.

OR

Bus serves Sv. A in AM, Sv. B in between, and Sv. C in PM.

or we can say, "swing" is "cross-services" , that is, it has duties on more than one service on a single day, anyday.. while "split-shift" is simply one-service, but with a break time for the bus in depot during the day..

Correct. Only it may manifest itself in different forms, it all depends on timetabling.

I make a clear stand, 3722 is not on 90 but 238!

Rego nos for 90 are:

Also, I have been writing in to SBS 7 times and call in 30-50 times to tell me why 90 is mainly NAC. And their reply states that there is no such thing, I think commuters should boycott service 8 as SBS treat 8 as a special service as it is under Bedok.

*The reply is not equal with the fleet deployed, if you could see that during off peak, buses are all NAC.

I think I know why SBST can’t be bothered to reply to your feedback. Point is, they get sick of it! You call in 30+ times and send so many feedbacks all on one subject, they are bound to feel irritated.

My SWING definition is equal to that of the split shift as said above. This is because the driver's timesheet said SWING. Razz

As for the type where the bus operates more than one service per day, SBST may use the same word. But as for this forum, it'd be better if we apply the above definition Smile

is SBS2766L a perm bus on Svc 358? it does not use the long side plates on MK4s since Svc 358 does not seem to have it but it was on Svc 358.. i had no time to see if it “swung” to another service..

Yes, it'd be less confusing and more logical. Because on many timetables I've seen the word SWING never appears.
